Jen Mammana Miller

Jen Mammana Miller takes a modern approach to her classes at BK Pilates. It is a high-burn and faster-paced format, with careful attention to form, control and efficient movement. Daughter of a body builder and gym owner herself, Jen has always grown up in the fitness world but never quite found her niche. After giving birth to her daughter 5 years ago, Jen decided to try a reformer Pilates class to strengthen her core. It was a life changer. Pilates helped Jen strengthen in a way she never had before, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. After a year of being totally addicted, Jen decided to become a Pilates teacher and received her certification through Balanced Body Education. Jen has been with BK Pilates since its opening, and loves sharing her love for Pilates with others.

Q: What is your favorite healthy snack and favorite meal?
JM: My favorite healthy snack is definitely strawberries! I probably eat them every day and anytime of the day! My favorite healthy meal is a salad with what I grow in my garden – arugula, romaine, tomatoes, and cucumbers! Whatever is in season, and seasoned with very good olive oil and balsamic vinegar!

Q: What is your favorite skincare line right now and do you have a routine that you would like to share? Most essential skin care tip? Answer any or all of the above!
JM: My skin care routine is very simple – I love Claudale products and use them every day! I have a serious hair routine though that I think is just as important as skin! I am obsessed with the Oaui shampoo and conditioner. I always apply Shu Uemura Essence Absolu oil on my wet hair for shine, and I always use Oribe dry texture spray for beachy waves!

Q: Do you have a wellness secret?
JM: My wellness secret is simple— self-care. That’s different for everyone. For me, I like to make time for my own personal workouts, a massage, and always a mani/pedi!

Q: There are so many smoothie varieties out there! What do you put in your favorite smoothie?
JM: My go-to smoothie that never fails includes… strawberries! I also add watercress (more vitamins than kale!), a kiwi for fiber, more berries, a fresh squeezed orange, and usually a plant-based protein powder if I have a long day.

Q: What is your favorite meal to cook?
JM: I make the most delicious mussels in tomato and wine broth you will ever taste!

Q: What are some activities you like to do outside of Pilates?
JM: My happiest place is on the beach. I have a new love for gardening and have been planting for several seasons now. I love cooking and hosting and just enjoying time with family and friends.

Q: Did you always have an interest in health and wellness?
JM: I’ve always been mindful of the food I consume and have had a healthy diet my whole life. My parents instilled bar in me. But I never considered myself athletic— I didn’t have an interest to play sports and hated gym class! I would work out at the gym with my dad, I liked doing my own thing, but didn’t love it. When I had my daughter I knew I needed to rebuild my body. That’s when I found BK Pilates. That was my first ever Pilates class and, clearly, I fell in love!

Q: What do you typically eat for breakfast?
JM: Breakfast for me is black coffee. I cannot start my day without it and I usually don’t have an appetite until a few hours later. Then on my busy days, I will have a yogurt with granola and fruit. Mornings off, I always have eggs, any style, and toast from Bread Alone- it’s the best!

Q: What is your favorite indulgence?
JM: My indulgence is pizza! I can never turn it down! I also love chocolate gelato. Yum!

Q: What are three essential items you have in your bag?
JM: Aside from the must-have 3 (phone, wallet, keys), you’ll always find in my bag a bottle of water, a granola bar and lip gloss.

Q: Favorite quote
JM: My favorite quote is “it’s all good” it works in so many situations. I even have it tattooed. It’s a simple way to think of letting go of difficult things and keeping your heart light.
