Bio:

Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mikayla moved to New York City to attend New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Drama.  She had always been a physical actor, but during her time at NYU, she suffered injuries that made the rigorous physical nature of acting training frustrating and at times impossible. Her senior year, she met a movement teacher who reframed her portrait of movement for actors. This new way of working allowed her to make bolder, more deeply informed physical choices with her art.  And that teacher just so happened to be a Pilates teacher!  She started taking Pilates classes multiple times per week, and she found a sense of strength and empowerment as an artist and a human. About four years post-grad, she became a fully certified Pilates teacher through the Kane School of Core Integration. She has experience working with clients ages 16-93 (seriously!), and loves helping clients find a sense of awareness, healing, and liberation via Pilates.

Q&A:

Q: What is your favorite healthy snack and favorite meal?
MS: My favorite healthy snack is coffee. My favorite meal is probably also coffee, but a spicy Thai curry is up there.

Q: What is your favorite skincare line right now and do you have a routine that you would like to share? Most essential skin care tip? Answer any or all of the above!
MS: Mad Hippie! I use almost every product they make. My most essential skin care tip is WEAR SUNSCREEN! Every. Single. Day.

Q: Do you have a wellness secret?
MS: Sleep. Journaling.

Q: There are so many smoothie varieties out there! What do you put in your favorite smoothie?
MS: Blueberries, spinach, broccoli, ½ banana, nut butter, almond milk, a pinch of vanilla extract and a sprinkle of salt.

Q: What is your favorite meal to cook?
MS: I’m a lazy cook so I like things that are quick, tasty, and make a ton of food so I can repurpose it for a few days. Pulled pork is a staple.

Q: What are some activities you like to do outside of Pilates?
MS: Watch sports, especially basketball. Run. Read books. Act.

Q: Did you always have an interest in health and wellness?
MS: Nope! I have always loved to move, climbing trees, dancing (poorly), playing basketball with friends for hours, but I am massively unathletic and I grew up eating Little Debbie’s and drinking Dr. Pepper. I had a fear of vegetables.

Q: What do you typically eat for breakfast?
MS: A massive coffee. Then maybe cottage cheese with some blueberries, or these freezer protein & oat bars I make that are easy to pull out in the morning.

Q: What is your favorite indulgence?
MS: Sour candy. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but don’t get near me with a bag of Sour Patch Kids or you’ll never see them again.

Q: What are three essential items you have in your bag?
MS: journal, vitamin c packet, kindle

Q: Favorite quote
MS: “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated.” – Maya Angelou
